DESCRIPTION:Experience Smith-Gilbert Gardens’ two-month-long outdoor exhibit\, Art Blooms\, surrounded by beautiful flowers! Celebrate spring with various art installations\, games\, events\, and more throughout April and May 2026. \nSmith-Gilbert Gardens and the City of Kennesaw invite the community to experience Art Blooms 2026 – Inherent Resilience: Healing Through Art and Nature\, a two-month\, citywide celebration of creativity\, connection\, and renewal. Taking place throughout April and May\, Art Blooms transforms gardens\, parks\, trails\, and public spaces into immersive art experiences that explore how art and nature inspire healing and growth. \nDuring Art Blooms\, the permanent collection will be complemented by a temporary outdoor sculpture exhibit showcasing regional artists\, along with specially painted wooden eggs created by students from Cobb County high schools\, highlighting student creativity and artistic expression. \nMembers of the community may participate in the Art Blooms scavenger hunt. Participants can pick up scavenger hunt cards at several participating locations\, including 1885 Grill\, Lazy Guy Distillery\, Smith-Gilbert Gardens\, the Southern Museum and ETO Martial Arts. Each location will stamp the card once. Once the card is filled with stamps\, participants should drop it off at City Hall\, 2529 J.O. Stephenson Avenue\, by Friday\, May 29 by 4 p.m. for a chance to win prizes. SUMMARY:Celestial Perspectives - Jess Self
DESCRIPTION:A Solo Exhibition in the Terri Strickland Cole Galleries \nCelestial Perspectives is an installation-based exhibition of textile artwork created by Jess Self that reimagines the given space as a multi-dimensional portal. Intricately hand-woven using a variety of patterns and various techniques\, the artwork at the heart of this exhibition mimics the pulsing code of the Matrix—both a cosmic map and a textile labyrinth. The installation is an invitation to wander\, to slow down and perceive the symbolic language of color\, material\, and form. The viewer is asked to navigate the space physically and psychologically\, passing between veils\, encountering figures\, and contemplating the thin walls between timelines\, histories\, and selves. \nJess Self is a sculptor and educator based in Decatur\, GA. Her work explores materiality\, archetypes\, and cultural narratives through wax\, wool\, wood\, and textiles. By integrating craft traditions and storytelling\, her figurative sculptures examine spirituality and the human experience.Self earned her MFA in Sculpture from Georgia State University and her BFA from Warren Wilson College. She has exhibited nationally and internationally\, including solo exhibitions at\, the Hudgens Center for the Arts\, Echo Contemporary and the Loudon House and Group shows like ArtFields. Her work has been recognized with awards such as the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant and the Hudgens Prize Finalist Award.In addition to her studio practice\, Self teaches at the University of North Georgia. She has led courses in textiles\, sculpture\, and design\, blending technical skill with conceptual depth. DESCRIPTION:Enjoy the Smyrna Spring Jonquil Festival which features more than 150 arts & crafts booths\, more than 10 food booths\, a live entertainment stage\, beer gardens\, and various children’s activities. The jonquils will be in bloom amid springtime in Smyrna. Bring the family to shop\, play\, eat\, drink\, and have a great day together! \nArtisans from all over the Southeast feature handmade crafts\, paintings\, clothing\, furniture\, jewelry\, and much more. The festival foods include cotton candy\, candy apples\, corn dogs\, hand-dipped ice cream\, snow cones\, polish sausage\, chicken sandwich\, and BBQ. The huge interactive area includes big and small inflatable activities\, sand art\, and more. Whether it’s your child or the child in you\, there are plenty of food and activities for the whole family to enjoy.  \nThe festival lasts from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday\, April 25\, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday\, April 26. Admission is free at this fun and exciting festival!
